RIP is an exhibition of twenty-six artists exploring death. While putting this together, the importance of curation really struck me. In a particular context, such as “spooky,” works can take on new, even insidious meanings. A beautiful glass of wine suddenly looks lethal. The works move from graveyards to ghostly still lifes, to Baconesque screams, to costumes, then burning landscapes, and finally to cute monsters. Artists here are working in acrylic and oil, quilts and charcoal, and even photography made with blood. Together they shift between the tragic and the absurd. Happy Halloween month, and enjoy the music!
